Constellations

Anvi Mathur — California, United States

Alternate name: Teenage Angst

The stars shined brighter when she was around.

We would go sky-watching on the third night of each month. She would point out the constellations, and I would look for them in her eyes.

The sun shined brighter too. She explained that it was a star, that all the stars were suns and all the suns were stars. That no matter where you went, no matter when, there would always be a star if you just looked.

The stars blinked off.

So did the sun.

I couldn’t find her eyes.

I looked and looked, but I couldn’t find my star.
